Keuka College’s 104th commencement did not conclude with the awarding of degrees Sunday, May 27, in Keuka Park.
It continued yesterday (Wednesday, May 30) morning when 85 students from Tianjin University of Science and Technology (TUST) in China received Bachelor of Science degrees in management.
Keuka President Dr. Jorge L. Díaz-Herrera, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Anne Weed, and Administrative Chancellor for China Campuses Dr. Michael Hwang were on hand to congratulate the newest additions to the College’s alumni ranks.
In his commencement address, Díaz-Herrera said there are “very few students anywhere in the world today who will earn separate undergraduate degrees from two great academic institutions, from two different nations, two far apart continents, and in two very different languages.”
Representing TUST, one of Keuka’s four Chinese partner universities, were President Dr. Cao Xiaohong, Vice President Wang Shuo, Director of the Office of Foreign Exchange and Affairs Wu Zhengjung ,Dean of the International College Zhang Jiangguo, former Dean Sissy Liu, and faculty and staff from the International College.
That evening, Diaz-Herrera hosted an appreciation dinner for TUST leaders, administrative staff, and international business faculty in downtown Tianjin. The president presented a Lifetime Outstanding Education Contribution Award to President Cao Xiaohong and Vice President Wang Shuo.
He also presented Outstanding Contribution Awards to Wu Zhengjung, Vice Director of the Office of Foreign Exchange and Affairs Zhao Xing, Section Chief of Foreign Experts Section (Department of International Cooperation and Exchange) Zhao Peiqing, Dean Zhang Jiangguo, former Dean Sissy Liu, and Keuka China Program (KCP) Coordinator Xu Xuetian.
Dean Zhang Jiangguo presented Diaz-Herrera with an album featuring handwritten and handmade pictures and messages from KCP graduates and students expressing their joy and excitement at Diaz-Herrera attending the commencement ceremony at TUST for the first time as president of Keuka College.
