Pets, Students Inspire 2002 Graduate to Pen Children’s Book

Stephanie Meindl Dikey, a 2002 graduate of Keuka College, recently published  The Adventures of Phoenix & Tucson: The Great Rescue, a children’s book that focuses on her pet dog (Phoenix) and cat (Tucson).

Both were rescued animals and the book is about their rescue and the special bond they created. The book includes a section targeted toward teachers and features several lesson ideas.

In this interview with Executive Director of Communications Doug Lippincott, Dikey, who teaches third grade in Webster, N.Y., tells how she was inspired to write the book by her pets and her students. She also outlines how Keuka College prepared her for a teaching and writing career, why teaching is at the core of the book, and her plans to turn The Adventures of Phoenix and Tucson into a series.
