Waye to Go! Part 2

Three months after receiving the Rotary Club of Penn Yan’s Service Above Self award, Executive Director of Alumni and Family Relations Kathy Waye was again honored for her community service commitment.

Waye received the Robert Maxwell Memorial Director of the Year Award at the Yates County Chamber of Commerce annual dinner Jan. 28 at the Dresden Hotel. She is a member of the Chamber’s Board of Directors.

Maxwell, who was president of the former Security Trust bank in Penn Yan, served on the Chamber board and is credited with helping create StarShine, Penn Yan’s annual holiday celebration.

“Bob believed in Penn Yan the way few people do, and this award goes to a person who goes above and beyond for the Chamber,” said Chamber President Mike Linehan in a Jan. 30 Finger Lakes Times story. “Kathy has done that. She has been a doer for the Chamber. If something needs to be done, she will do it.”

Two other area residents with Keuka College connections were honored as well. Taylor Fitch, chairman of the Yates County Legislature, received the Norman Snow Jr. Memorial Award while Jim Long, owner of Longs’ Card & Books in Penn Yan, received the Emily Seager Memorial Pride Award.

Fitch and Long were recipients of the College’s Donald and Corrine Stork Award for Community Service. Fitch and wife Linda were honored in 1995 while Long and wife Gloria, were recognized in 2011.
